Transport rates to remain same, despite hike in petrol prices

KARACHI: Despite the hike in petroleum and diesel prices, transportation fares will remain the same, announced President of Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) Irshad Bukhari on Monday.Speaking to the media, Bukhari announced the Combined Natural Gas (CNG) was majorly being used by most of the vehicle owners while a small percent was using diesel.He added further that inflation will soar following the hike in petrol prices, demanding the government to revert its decision regarding the price increase.On Sunday, the government approved a summary by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) which led to a Rs6 hike in petrol prices taking the total price to Rs98.89.On the other hand, high-speed diesel and kerosene oil prices were also raised by Rs3 each taking their respective prices to Rs117.43 and Rs80.54.

Khunjerab pass opens for trade and travel

Pak- China border Khunjuerab pass has opened for trade and travel on Monday.As per the agreement signed between Pakistan and China, the border closes on 1st December every year and re-opens on 1st April every year.The border closes in the month of December due to heavy snowfall in winters and  remains closed for four months every year.The Khunjerab pass is the highest paved international border crossing in the world and is also the highest point on Karakoram Highway.

Husband assaults wife for not going with his friends after he lost her in gamble in Chiniot

CHINIOT: A woman was tortured brutally by her husband after she rejected his demand of going with his friends after losing her in a gamble on Sunday.As per reports by the police, the woman who identified herself as Mehwish had appealed for the registration of a first information report (FIR) when she revealed that her husband named Ali Raza was a drug addict and gambler.She stated further that he along with three of his friends had gotten into a game of gambling on Saturday night where Raza had bet his wife but had lost.Upon her refusal to go with his friends, Raza had critically injured her beating her up and attacking with a sharp weapon. Police revealed further that the FIR has been filed and the suspect has been taken into custody.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Canvas Gallery, Karachi booth at Art Dubai 2019.Art Dubai is an international fair where paintings, photographs, sculptures and art installations adorned the vast space along Jumeirah beach. In vivid colours or black and white the paintings and sculptures on display by various galleries from around the world provided a venue to learn and gain knowledge about styles, influences and practices of influential modernists and cultural landscape of different countries.All the exhibitors, artists and visitors seemed to have a great time and despite being professional to the core, Art Dubai was like a big family gathering making it easy to get to know new people.There were plenty of exhibitions hosted by galleries presenting variety of artworks for the taste of every visitor. With thousands of visitors each year the fair provided a great opportunity to artists, curators, collectors and art lovers to meet each other. Artists of diverse origins selected many different subjects to be portrayed through their artworks from war, migration to famine, hope and love. Hamra AbbasThis year also at the 13th Art Dubai Fair a Pakistani gallery based in Karachi - Canvas Gallery participated in the fair in "Contemporary Art" section with the artworks of artists Hamra Abbas and Muzzumil Ruheel. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum also visited the Canvas Gallery booth at Art Dubai 2019. Sameera Raja, Director Canvas Gallery, Karachi was of the view that people were very receptive to Hamra and Muzzumil's work. They loved the quietness of it and the subtlety. Great comments were received about the show and booth as it provided very a sophisticated display and was not busy and overflowing with work. People enjoyed both the artists’ works making it a great experience for visitors. Hamra Abbas Hamra Abbas“Gardens in which rivers flow: Plastic flowers and everyday waterfalls” was the title of series of marble sculptures presented by Hamra Abbas at the fair. There were two series of sculptures “Flowers: Gardens of Paradise” and “Everyday Waterfalls. Hamra AbbasHamra Abbas experimented with the popular marble inlay technique known as Parchinkari in South Asia in her new body of work. In 17th century during Shahjehan’s ruling period this technique became a distinctive characteristic of Mughal architecture.She used this form of art in portraying changes in society due to change in consciousness of common people and also deals with questions of desire and devotion. The title “Gardens in which rivers flow” is also indicative of the promise of such gardens in paradise. She used images of flowers and plants just like fresco paintings and abstract presentation of waterfalls. Hamra AbbasHamra Abbas’s work “Flowers: Gardens of Paradise I”, will be part of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA), India’s first private museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art.  Muzzumil Ruheel
