Shah Mehmood Qureshi hopes EU will raise voice over plight of Kashmiris

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday said the European Parliament during its discussion on Occupied Kashmir on Monday would hopefully raise its voice for the plight of Kashmiris who had been facing curfew and other restrictions for the past almost one month at the hand of Indian forces in the occupied Kashmir.Talking to reporters here at the Karachi Airport, he said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to face embarrassment in his attempts to prevent the Kashmir issue to be highlighted internationally.Qureshi said Europe should play its role over the Kashmir issue.The European Parliament was expected to deliberate on the Modi government's illegal actions in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and raise voice against human rights violations in the disputed territory, he added.He called for the release of thousands of Kashmiris imprisoned by the Indian authorities after the revocation of the special constitutional status of the IOK on August 5. He criticised Indian brutalities, and incessant curfew and other restrictions in the occupied territory.There was no precedent in the history of the suppression of the freedom of association and freedom of press which the Modi government had resorted to in the IOK.Answering a question, he said the Gulf countries stood by Pakistan over the Kashmir conflict.He referred to a consensus statement from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and appreciated their stance over Kashmir.He thanked the opposition for supporting the government in the assemblies over Kashmir, and hoped that they would also join the government in future protests on it.Replying to another question about airspace closure to India, he said it was under consideration.The prime minister would decide on it at a suitable time, he said, adding the government's decisions were taken keeping in view both pros and cons of an action.To another query, he said a strategy had been formulated and the Kashmir Cell would place its recommendations before the public and media.The foreign minister said he would visit Geneva on September 9 where he would expose Indian atrocities in the IOK before the Human Rights Commission.Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said, would highlight the plight of Kashmiris before the UN General Assembly on September 27. About the Kartharpur Corridor, he said more than 80 percent work on the project had been completed as "we stick to our schedule and are looking forward to welcome the Sikh pilgrims on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak."

Karachi weather update: Heavy rainfall in multiple parts

KARACHI: Multiple parts of Karachi on Sunday received moderate to heavy showers.As per reports, heavy rainfall was received at Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal, Nazimabad, Saddar, I.I Chundrigar Road, Shah Faisal Colony and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas, turning the weather pleasant. Moerover, after the rainfall, several incidents of motorbikes slipping on the road also came to surface while numerous areas also lost their power supply. Authorities at K-Electric also issued a caution for citizens to remain safe during the rainy weather whereas Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah directed municipalities to spring to action. The Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the spell of heavy monsoon in the country is still present with light to moderate rainfall expected to continue till the next two hours. Moreover, there is a forecast for Karachi to receive a recurrent spells of rain for the following two days.

Muharram: Routes of 8th, 9th, 10th mourning processions in Karachi

Karachi:  Additional  IG Karachi, Ghulam Nabi Memon on Sunday laid out the security plan for Muharram processions due to be taken out on 8th, 9th, 10th  at a high level meeting.Presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the meeting was attended by Advisor to CM Murtaza Wahab, DG Rangers Major General Omer Ahmed Bokhari, IG Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shahlwani,  Additional  IG CTD Kamran Fazal, Additional IG Special Branch Imran Minhas, Secretary Local Government Khalid Hyder Shah, Sector Commanders of intelligence agencies, provincial head of Intelligence Bureau, Col M. Nasir of 5 Corps, Col Faisal and other officials. Ghulam Nabi Memon told the meeting that 9th Moharram procession is to start at 12 noon from Nishtar Park. The procession will pass through  Nishtar Park, Guru Mandar – New M.A Jinnah Road and Namze Zohrain would be offered at VVIP Gate of Mazar-e-Quaid. Then the procession would pass through Peoples Round about, New M.A Jinnah Road, Saddar Dawakhana, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Tibet Center, Plastic Market to Hussainian Iraninan Imambargah. There would be over 30,000 mourners in the procession. Talking about 10th Moharram procession, the Additional IG Karachi said that it would start from Nishatar Park. The route would be the same but Namaze Zohrain would be offered at Tibet Center at 1:30pm.  Routes of  9th and 10th Muharram processionsThe procession would  end at Hussianina Iranian Imambrgah at 1800 hours. As many as  50,000 mourners are expected to be part of the procession. Memon said that keeping in view the potential threats, walk through gates would be installed and police deployment would be on the rooftops of the nearby buildings. The bomb disposal squad would sweep the areas and all the entry points to the procession would be kept under strict watch. 'Fakhar Zaman's Instagram account hacked'

The Instagram account of Pakistani cricketer Fakhar Zaman has been hacked, said former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Twitter on Sunday.Afridi  tagged the Twitter account of  the Facebook-owned photo sharing app asking it to take notice. "Hi @instagram, the insta account of Pakistan National pride & cricket player, Fakhar Zaman has been hacked. His insta account is FakharZaman719 and its verified," he wrote. "A lot of people look up to him. Can you please look into this and help him in getting it back? Many thanks!," said Afridi.Fakhar Zaman is  a left-hand Pakistani batsman  who had played a crucial role in green-shirts' victory against India.He became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double century in a One Day International.

Viral ATM thief sticking tongue out at camera dies in police custody

The viral ATM thief, identified from a widely circulating CCTV video showing him sticking his tongue out at the camera, died in police custody on Sunday. Salahuddin, hailing from Gujranwala, was arrested from Rahim Yar Khan on Saturday.Reports revealed that the suspect was already suffering from a health condition and was taken to the hospital as the illness worsened. An inquiry into his death has also been ordered by the District Police Officer with the cause of his death to be announced following a post-mortem.Salahuddin had garnered online attention after a video of him made rounds on the internet as he stole from an ATM machine in Faisalabad while sticking his tongue out at the camera during the process. He was recognized a month later by security officials at an ATM in Rahim Yar Khan where he was attempting to repeat the criminal act. 

OIC statement on Kashmir victory for Pakistan's principled stance: Firdous Ashiq Awan

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said the statement of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in support of the Kashmiri people was a victory of Pakistan’s principled stance and a defeat for India.Dr Firdous said,”We welcome the OIC for raising its voice once again” for the right to self-determination of innocent people of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir.She said the OIC had reminded the international community (of its responsibility) to get the curfew imposed by India in the occupied state lifted, and that the longstanding dispute could only be resolved in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
